Pandemic....Infections!!

Infected at the Hospital ?

Raising up both hands and jumping up and down, yelling out over here, over here! The jumping up and down to get attention, smile, I learned that from Tom Cruise lol. I underwent liver surgery some months ago at the VA Hospital. The surgery went well, but unfortunately I acquired a staph infection sometime during my stay.

I am still recovering from that ordeal, as I still have a septic shoulder (can't lift arm but so far and arm is painful and very weak in general), but thank goodness I've gotten this far and have been able to return back to work. I can easily go on record about the unsafe methods by some of the hospital staff. They do not check and change bedding routinely, they do not serve meals in a timely manner, food sits around getting cold and them rather that warming it up or exchanging it they still will bring that food tray to a patient. They bring you medication to take and expect you to wash it down with that same glass of water that has been sitting in the room for hours. How many times did I have to lay in wet spots because noone responded to my buzzing the desk for a bed pan, I finally had to get a catherter! Oh I can go on, but why? Please anyone who reads this please, please, please be sure to wash your hands frequently throughout the day. There are germs lurking everywhere, hospitals used to be the place one goes to to get "saved"mmm not anymore. I still require more surgery but I will admit I am afraid to go back into an hospital, so comme si, comme sa, I'll just have to take my chances....

The State of Our Nation
Current mood: awake

What We Gonna Do About Things???

On the Oprah Show yesterday the condition of poverty in our country was discussed. Good job and input from Maria Schriver (Kennedy, Schwarzenegger), Gail King (reporter and longtime friend) and my man from CNN Anderson Cooper. Also shown in my part of the country, a bit on homelessness in this state (Nebraska) ! The information divulged from these reports is Not New, but for the sake of positivity, lets pretend it is...so, whats going to be done about these conditions? Everytime that I go food shopping, for gasoline fill-ups, to the doctors or to a restaurant I wonder silently how in the hell do poor people make it. Grocery and gasoline prices seem to rise everyday. The times that I've been in line at the store and Senior citizens especially haven't had enough money to pay for their purchases..I assist them gladly, but isn't this a sad state of affairs? We have human beings right here in our country who are hungry, homeless, helpless, and hapless and yet we are quick to pack up an airplane with life saving equipment in order to rescue the victims of Sunami's, Earthquakes (Pakistan),and any major disaster that occurs outside of our country! And there always seems to be that instant phone call to others pledging assistance of millions of dollars. Excuse me, but what about the folks reported on by Maria, Gail and Anderson? Um, so whats going to be done about these conditions?
Furthermore,- thousands of hurricane victims are still awaiting resolutions from FEMA regarding more permanent housing rather than continued living in makeshift conditions; the anticipation of a Pandemic Bird Flu outbreak/epidemic, remember what happened last year, not enough vaccine at the onset of the flu season and then waste at the latter part of the season (first not enough, then too much); the continued costly war expenses, lost of life; the resurgence of the Church scandal; non prosecution of the white collared criminals; the continued outsourcing of business out of the US, this has been the greatest reason for so many jobs being lost, rise in unemployment. So, what are we going to do about things?
The Secretary of State Condelezza Rice was silent about the Hurricane fiasco's in New Orleans and Mississippi, but here she is being shown on television recently visiting Pakistan and promising them longterm aid...Mr and Mrs Bush went down and hammered with volunteers building houses, well that was cool, at least they Did help out in some fashion, I'd have really been more impressed had he put his feet in that flood water in New Orleans,( don't judge unless you walk in the shoes of...).

The advent of this flu outbreak is very scary...this is too dangerous a thing only to just give lip service too. Help our own, stop talking about it and try to sincerely and genuinely do something to improve the poverty situation. Appalachia, The Delta, Detroit, Chicago, Connecticut, the problems that exist in these specified area are in reality not new, just ignored!! Stop talking about it,,,,Walk the Walk and start taking some positive actions to correct these horrible conditions that exist for so many of our sisters and brothers.
