Crying Madonna Phenomenon

I just have finished reading a book by Rita Mae Brown in which the central story is based upon a fictional monastery located way up in the hills of Virginia. In this story, it tells of the emergence of a Madonna statue that is crying tears of blood.
Mmmmmm, this whole matter of the crying statue in Spain is very interesting! Which came first the egg or the chicken?
