Shades of the Jerry Springer Show...lol
Well I'll be damned, went upstairs earlier tonight to catch up with my DVR recordings, clicked on Oprah and the subject was Terry McMillan of How Stella Got Her Groove Back fame and her divorce from her husband because he is gay. I never did watch the Jerry Springer show when it was on and was just about to erase the Oprah show. What stopped me was that I couldn't believe that Terry and Oprah were on doing this stuff so I kept watching in order to find the answer. Terry's got a new book out, sweeps week for Oprah? It wasn't until the end of the show that I got it. Oprah bought the rights to Terry's latest book-The Interruption of Everything and is going to produce the movie. I have read this book and it like everyone that Terry has written is excellent and full of life teaching experiences. I'm glad that I did watch this program as it put it out there in plain english what lying and pretending does to the human spirit. I most certainly could relate to the fact that she had been betrayed by someone who portrayed himself as something he was not (heterosexual), he was doing the downlow thingy. It was very clear that she was still in love with him but very angry about his propensity towards men instead of her. It was also clear that he looked upon her as big sister rather than a lover! After all she has money and took him out of the poor lifestyle that he had led in Jamaica and by marrying her moved into the good life and protected his real sexuality from being discovered by others.
But as life generally goes, the truth will ALWAYS emerge in the end, she was fooled and now realizes that she has to make better decisions about people she befriends in the future. Now, I can relate to this, All THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD, and that is for sure! But a lesson is a lesson no matter how much it hurts, and the ultimate lesson is to learn from it, and not let it happen again! The lesson for her former husband is to stick his ego in his boyfriends hole and leave innocent women alone.
Glad I didn't errase that tape, couldn't imagine why Terry would want to air all of that on the media, but perhaps it was theraputic!
